My chiropractor mentioned something called the “Hour of Power” to me the other day. It’s a motivational technique that she’s successfully used in her own life to get focused and get results. When I referred to jotted note from our conversation, I had written this:
- 20 minutes of visualization
- 20 minutes of exercise (even walking)
- 20 minutes of reading inspirational books
- 20 minutes of prayer or meditation
Now, I am not always the best when it comes to doing math in my head, but even I know at a casual glance that four sets of 20 minutes doesn’t equal one hour. So.. After doing a brief search online, I found a definition that works out a little better, mathematically:

Yes, there are a few other definitions or meanings floating about the web for “Hour of Power” — but this one is what my chiropractor was talking about. I just couldn’t remember the specific 20 minute tasks.
It’s interesting how we are willing to block out time in our day for various mundane tasks, but we are unwilling to set aside time for “self-maintenance.” This “Hour of Power” concept seems like something to fill that gap.
It’s like that cheesy saying: “By saying no to others, you are saying yes to yourself.”
So, what have you done lately for yourself?
