Are you curious what work goes into the cover image for Macworld? Peter Belanger shares his secrets in this time lapse video. There are three parts of the movie: photography, Photoshop, and InDesign. Find out a few more details on Belanger’s blog post: cover creation.
I enjoyed watching this video because it really highlights the complexity of photographing product shots. You can’t just plop down an ipod, snap the shutter, and then hand over a “finished” image. You have to have a vision for the shot; you need to know what you want to accomplish. And of course, you need the lighting know-how to get the job done!
If you’re in the dark about what effort goes into product photography, this video will open your eyes. Remember, the job isn’t done after capture. There’s all the processing and retouching, not to mention getting client approval!
Remember, the best commercial photographers make things look simple and effortless. I guess that goes for all photographers, not just commercial photographers!
