Let’s face it. People don’t read as much as they used to read. Newspapers are becoming antiquated, and one the internet users tend to skim for specific content and keywords rather than reading. If you actually take the time to read the second panel of text, it’s really quite interesting:
As Marshall McLuhan said, ‘the medium is the message’. The digital age is upon us. In depth reading isn’t required and images have become more important, making it the dark ages for writers but the golden age for photographers.
I find this especially in the online environment. Users are skimming content, looking for results/answers which are relevant to the question at hand. I reiterate this when speaking to photographers about their web presence. Yes, text is important. But, make sure yours gets read… design it for web reading… Make it entertaining, make it to the point, and don’t ramble on just for the sake of getting to your minimum word count.
Over and out.

True that, Betsy.
I recently added a feature to my blog called “1000 Words” where I just show a picture and, at most, a sentence of text. Early results indicate that it is no less popular than the best of my info-articles. Time will tell if the category will hold its own.
