So, is your email address hard to remember, or maybe easy to forget? I admit, I’ve had trouble explaining my website and email address to people sometimes. You’d think that saying, “betsysphotography dot com” would be easy enough to someone to hear and write down… but I’ve gotten phone calls from people who have interpreted my email address as follows:
- besty@bestysphotography.com
- betsy@betsyphotography.com
- betsys@betsyphotography.com
- besty@betsy’sphotography.com
That last one is my favorite… you can’t have an apostrophe in an email address! What’s the solution?
Sometimes it really is just easier to pick up the phone and call.
If you must communicate via email though, and the other person still doesn’t “get” your email address, I’ve used one technique with moderate success. If they just can’t understand my email address, after a few attempts, I will provide an alternate email. you know, like “myname@live.com” — something that is almost impossible to get wrong.
Note: If you make the effort to actually read the email “addresses” — they are kind of funny. Especially the “new” email — I’ll decode it for you: Mad hacker skills accompanied by great fear of commitment.
