Note: this “how-to” is meant for WordPress.org blogs (meaning it is hosted on your domain).
The best (or “safest”) place to find WordPress themes is at the WordPress Theme Directory… as these themes are all free of charge. But, you can find premium + free themes elsewhere on the web if you like. For this “how to” I’ve chosen the Pixeled Theme.

The image above shows a screenshot of Pixeled’s WordPress Theme Directory Listing. Click on the orange “Download” link to continue. In Firefox, you’ll see a download window pop-up thatlooks like the one I’ve shown below:

Once it’s saved, then the fun begins! Locate the file (mine was saved on my desktop). The file is compressed as a ZIP file, so use your favorite extraction method:

Ok, once it’s unzipped. Open the “pixeled.1.9” folder. Inside, you’ll find another folder, in this instance, named “pixeled.”

This “pixeled” folder (the folder that directly contains all the WordPress theme goodies) is the one you’ll want to put on your website. And here’s what’s inside that folder:

So far, so good? Great! Now log into your FTP client so that we can get those files on your website. The folder structure example below assumes your blog is located inside a folder named “blog.” Find the folder called “wp-content” – and then inside that folder should be one called “themes.” This is where we will put your theme.

Just drag the theme folder into the “themes” directory. It should begin uploading… and when complete, you will be able to change the theme on your blog! So, login to your blog, and go to themes. Scroll down to “Available Themes,” and you should see the new theme ready to be activated. Click on the theme picture “Pixeled” — and your new theme will be activated! There it is, you are all set and ready to enjoy your new blog theme!
