Don Blair’s Body Parts is a great reference book! It diagrams various types of lighting setups (5 total), and then proceeds to discuss posing and how to flatter typical “problem” characteristics. This book focuses on studio posing only, so don’t expect to see pointers for specifically location sessions (although you can take what you’ve learned and apply it to location I suppose!). Masculine and feminine posing are discusses, as well as body parts (hence the name) like eyes, hair, noses, chins, bald head, eyeglasses, mouths, braces, long necks, face shapes….
There is a long section on posing Brides: upper body, arms, hands, his and her hands. Posing men and couples is also discussed. Don shares the lighting ratio he usually works with, and shares pictures of his location studio setup (ok, so it is “location”…but still studio).
I am really glad that I was recommended this book (it’s also on the PPA recommded reading list for the certification exam) — but even more glad that someone told me it was available for a reasonable price at the Rangefinder Marketplace! [2009 UPDATE: It appears that this book is no longer available at the Rangefinder Marketplace. The best current option appears to be Amazon.com]
